Job Role : Tableau Engineer

Job Description

Client: Credit Union/Financial institution

Position: Tableau Engineer

Location: Remote
Duration: 6+ Months

Overview:

We are seeking a mid to senior level Tableau Engineer for a contract engagement supporting a financial services client. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and delivering production-grade Tableau dashboards that support business, operational, and executive reporting needs. This role requires a balance of strong technical Tableau skills, solid data modeling fundamentals, and the ability to engage directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-designed, performant analytics solutions.

Candidates with prior experience in the financial services industry are strongly preferred, with credit union experience considered a significant advantage given the client’s domain and data landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Tableau dashboards across executive, operational, and analyst-facing use cases, ensuring consistency with established design standards and governance practices.
  • Build and maintain certified Published Data Sources, including data modeling, calculated fields, level-of-detail expressions, parameters, and row-level security configurations.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and data engineering teams to gather requirements, define metrics, and validate dashboard outputs against agreed business definitions.
  • Optimize dashboard and data source performance through extract design, query tuning, and workbook-level performance best practices.
  • Support the client’s Tableau environment (Server and/or Cloud), including content publishing, permissions, scheduled refreshes, and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to data source consolidation, metric standardization, and governance initiatives, helping reduce content sprawl and reinforce a single source of truth.
  • Document dashboards, data sources, and metric definitions to support knowledge transfer and ongoing maintenance.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands-on Tableau development experience, including Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering production dashboards used by business and executive audiences.
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write and tune queries against relational data warehouses.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and the trade-offs between live connections and extracts.
  • Experience implementing row-level security and managing permissions in a multi-team Tableau environment.
  • Familiarity with Tableau performance tuning, including extract strategy, calculation optimization, and workbook design considerations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate requirements into well-scoped deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently in a contract capacity, manage priorities across multiple workstreams, and deliver to agreed timelines.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Prior experience delivering Tableau solutions in the financial services industry (banking, wealth, insurance, capital markets).
  • Credit union experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with core banking platforms, member data structures, loan and deposit reporting, and typical credit union KPIs.
  • Experience with common financial services data domains such as member/customer 360, loan portfolio analytics, deposit and funding analytics, branch and channel performance, card and transaction analytics, or regulatory reporting support.
  • Exposure to Tableau Bridge and hybrid architectures where dashboards run in Tableau Cloud against on-premises data sources.
  • Experience with Tableau Content Migration Tool (CMT), Tableau Services Manager (TSM), or the Tableau Server Client (TSC) library.
  • Awareness of financial services data sensitivity considerations, including PII handling, role-based access, and audit/compliance expectations.
  • Tableau certification (Desktop Specialist, Certified Data Analyst, or Server Certified Associate / Consultant).
